About us

A small team in Beijing,
a very large country.

China Tour Story began in 2017 in Beijing. We are still small on purpose: the person who designs your trip is the person who answers when something goes wrong.

Our story

Built by people who live here

Most "China travel" websites are run from another hemisphere, reselling the same handful of itineraries through the same handful of agents. We went the other way. Our designers are Chinese, our guides are local, and our itineraries are written from places we have actually stood in — at 5 a.m., in the rain, waiting for the light.

Nine years later we host around 400 travellers a year across twelve destinations and eight signature routes, from Beijing's imperial axis to the Pamir plateau. That is deliberate: enough volume to keep real relationships with guides and hotels, small enough that nobody becomes a booking reference.

How we work

Four promises we can actually keep

01

One designer, start to finish

You get a name, a face and a direct email — not a shared inbox that rotates your file every week.

02

Commission-free advice

If we think a place is not worth your two days, we say so, even when it costs us the booking.

03

Guides paid properly

No commission-based shopping stops, ever. Our guides earn a fair day rate and keep their reputation.

04

Responsible by default

Small groups, off-peak routing, no elephant rides, no staged "minority villages". We book the train, not the coach.

FAQ

Questions we get every week

Do I need a visa for China?

Possibly not. Citizens of most European countries, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and many others can currently enter China visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism. Others qualify for the 240-hour transit policy. Tell us your nationality and we will confirm the current rule before you book flights.

How much does a private China trip cost?

Our routes start at around $990 per person for five days and $3,490 for a fifteen-day loop, based on two sharing, including hotels, private guide and driver, trains and entrance tickets. Flights to China are separate. Solo travellers typically add 25–35% for the single supplement.

Can you arrange Tibet?

Yes, and it is one of our specialities. Tibet requires a permit arranged through a licensed operator, a licensed Tibetan guide and a fixed itinerary — we handle all of it. We need your passport and China visa scan at least 20 days before arrival.

Is it safe to travel with children?

Very. China is statistically one of the safest destinations for families, and our guides routinely adjust pace for children. We can arrange connecting rooms, car seats, shorter walking days and kid-friendly food briefings.

What if my plans change?

Before you pay a deposit, changes are free and unlimited. After booking, most hotels and trains can be adjusted up to 15 days before arrival; we pass through only the actual supplier fees, never a change penalty of our own.

Do you run group tours?

No scheduled group departures. Everything is private, though we can build a small-group trip for 6–12 friends or a family reunion travelling together.
